We redrew 4,000 emoji images to increases their their quality and visual legibility. I art directed the creation of style guidelines, made tooling, and drafted other accessibility and color specifications to move the project forward. Each emoji also exists as a digital 3D object. These 3D objects will be open source.... soon!

A real-time installation that rebuilds whoever stands in front of it as a mosaic of emoji. A quadtree subdivides the live camera image, finer where there is detail and larger where there is less detail, then fills each cell with the closest match from an atlas of 1,245 emoji. Runs as a 24/7 kiosk on a 55-inch portrait touchscreen in a moulded housing.

Selected for The Cooper Union's Rhoda Lubalin Fellowship, 2022. I was asked to design and build the fellowship's archive of past fellow projects with Cora Andersen Bicknell.

A project a day for a few days, exploring kinetic and generative typography in the web browser. It's a series of design tools.

An app for my class: real-time chat with reactions, replies, threads, mentions, animated text effects and custom emotes, alongside week-by-week assignments, a roadmap, a shared file list, the syllabus, and tools for making things.

Art directed 5,124 assets for addition to the Emoji Kitchen library.

I maintained the UX design specification for emoji experiences and keyboards. It defines consistent emoji behavior across all Google products.

Procedural parametric flowers in WebGL. Raytracing and a set of geometry algorithms produce a grid of flowers generated at load time.

I art directed our emoji skin tone redesign to improve visual accessibility for light tones on light surfaces and dark tones on dark surfaces. This work was foundational to the emoji team's understanding of legibility.

Tap one skin toned emoji and they all update, making it easier to send skin toned emoji during the same conversation. This project was selected as a finalist in the Responsible Technology - Innovation category at the Anthem Awards.

A portfolio site for the artist Diego Herrera, with a custom CMS behind it. An Express and SQLite back end handles authentication and asset management. Log in, upload an image, give it a description, and it enters the index, so the site’s owner can keep it current without touching code. Remixed from the CRUD base built for the Rhoda Lubalin Fellowship site and extended into a full content-managed portfolio.

Identity and generative graphics for Dither, my senior show at Cooper Union.

A web project that transforms any screen into the simulation of a body-tracking sculpture. The project's data is broadcast from web sockets for anyone to see.
